Informatica software covers the data integration and data quality sectors of the Business Intelligence market. Its flagship product, Informatica Powercenter, it considered by many to be the number 1 ETL product on the market today.
Based on an easy to use GUI, Informatica Powercenter allows developers to create multiple data and work flows from various data sources, perform transforms and load data into new destinations. This process of extracting, transforming and loading is particularly fast using the Informatica product.
In addition to its ETL software, Informatica also sell Informatica Data Explorer and Informatica Data Quality. These two products focus on the data quality areas and allows users to review and resolve data quality issues.
The main competition to Informatica are Business Objects Data Integrator, Ab Initio and Datastage. Informatica recently won a patent ruling against one its main competitors – Business Objects. It was claimed that the Business Objects Data Integrator product infringed on several of Informatica’s patents relating to workflows. This was settled by Business Objects, and the relevant code removed in a subsequent release of the Data Integrator product.
